Mechanical Engineer, Test Bed

Expected Level of Knowledge equivalent to 1st Year Graduate Student

*Note the “Test Bed” is a large RC style vehicle that we mount hardware to that matches the full scale vehicle

Responsibilities

• Design and Manufacture platforms for teams to test, integrate sensors, and collect data in addition to the testbed (rapidly modeling and machining them in shop)

• Update in-shop testbed to give software teams the best possible system to test their code

• Work with partners in Delft on CAD for full-sized car

Personality Traits

• Curiosity to learn how things work, take them a part, and put them back together better than before

• Work independently as one of the only subject matter experts in MechE

• Enjoys working with physical hardware

• Self awareness of knowing limitations and being able to communicate roadblocks

Recommended Experience

• Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.)

• Good physical intuition of mechanics 

• Effective communication skills

• Bonus: Experience with Shop Machines/tools 

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours/week

• Team all hands meeting Tuesdays 8-9pm, sub team breakouts 9-930

• Saturday working session typically 10-5

• As needed throughout week
